NCHCFA 2026 Expo Recap

The 2026 NCHCFA Annual Convention & Expo in Greensboro brought together operators, clinical leaders, and executives across North Carolina’s post-acute care community for several days of education, discussion, and connection.

For our team at Careflow, it was a valuable opportunity to listen closely to what leaders are focused on this year. While every organization is navigating its own operational realities, the themes that surfaced repeatedly were remarkably consistent.

"There is no substitute for face-to-face time with people. NCHCFA brought together urban, suburban, and rural care providers and vendors, giving us all a space to work through our challenges, find new opportunities, and have some 70’s themed fun while we were at it!" -Mike Hook, SVP of Sales & Marketing, Careflow

Sessions That Shaped the Conversation

The educational agenda covered a wide range of regulatory, financial, and operational topics. Across sessions and side conversations, several areas stood out.

Reimbursement and Financial Stability

Discussions around Medicaid reimbursement, payer mix, and evolving funding models underscored how tightly operators are managing margin. Leaders are thinking carefully about how admissions decisions directly impact financial performance.

Quality and Compliance

Sessions focused on compliance and quality frameworks reinforced that documentation accuracy and operational consistency remain foundational. As regulations evolve, operators are seeking clarity and systems that support defensible decision-making.

Workforce and Leadership Development

Workforce stability continues to be a central challenge. Leadership sessions emphasized retention strategies, training, and operational design that supports frontline teams rather than adding administrative burden.

"Our industry is in the midst of a shift which requires owners, operators, and admissions teams to rethink how they run their facilities. Technology solutions, like Careflow, help savvy teams transition to proactively running their business, creating a durable competitive advantage by providing insights, automation, and workflows, all backed by accurate, reliable, and actionable data." - Mike Hook, SVP of Sales & Marketing at Careflow

Networking and Operator Conversations

Beyond the formal sessions, the most revealing insights often surfaced in hallway conversations and at the booth.

We spoke with admissions directors reviewing dozens of referrals per day, executive directors balancing occupancy goals with acuity realities, and growth leaders focused on strengthening hospital relationships.

One consistent theme emerged: referral volume is not the issue. Clarity and speed in decision-making are.

There is more pressure than ever to get admissions right. Hospitals are becoming more selective with where they send referrals as value based care becomes the norm. The pressure to perform for PAC & LTC providers is increasing as the competition increases, too. When you layer on staff shortages and reduced workforce projections, these teams need solutions they can provide on. It’s why I’m so excited about the solution we offer and the impact it has on owners, operators, admissions teams, clinical teams, and of course, the residents and their families.

Key Takeaways
  • Visibility drives performance.

  • Speed impacts revenue and relationships.

  • Alignment across admissions, clinical, and executive teams reduces friction.

  • Community and peer learning remain powerful drivers of progress.
